A panic attack is a sudden episode of intense fear that triggers severe physical reactions, often without any obvious cause. Symptoms can include a racing heart, chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, tingling hands, and a feeling of impending doom. Many people who experience their first panic attack believe they're having a heart attack or dying.
Panic attacks can occur as part of panic disorder (where attacks are unexpected and recurrent) or as a symptom of other anxiety conditions. The fear of having another panic attack can itself become disabling, leading people to avoid situations where an attack might occur.
Treatment at Nafs Wellcare focuses on understanding what's happening in your body during a panic attack, learning techniques to manage and shorten attacks, and addressing the underlying anxiety that fuels them. CBT is highly effective, and medication can provide additional support when needed.
Everyone experiences these differently. You don't need to have all of them to seek help.
